The first recorded instance of people drinking tea was during the reign of the Emperor Shennong in the year 2737 BC. It s recorded in The Classics of Tea that 2 leaves fell from a burning bush and landed in the cup of hot water the great Emperor was drinking from. Naturally he was impressed by the coincidental infusion and the rest is history. It s entirely possible that people were drinking tea for a long time before this royal epiphany but never managed to write about it.
